BBC and ITV have collaborated to create britbox a paid tv subscription service. Britbox is already available in the USA and currently has around 500,000 subscribers. Launching in the UK the service will take on Netflix and Amazon Prime. The service is being described as “the home of British Creativity”.

The new streaming service will offer old programmes from the channels as well as new content. However, it won’t show the latest services as these can be accessed through catch-up on BBC iPlayer and the ITV Hub.

The cost of purchasing this new service is not yet clear, but some commentators are quoting around £5 per month. Presently, in the USA you can purchase the service for around $6.99 per month.
